Oregon boasts of so many outstanding rivers. One of Oregon’s popular Rafting destinations is the Rogue River which flows from the Cascade Range to the Pacific Ocean. The river, which spans 64 km, has Class IV Rapids. It runs through a steep, heavily forested canyon, lots of rapids, narrow gorges, and warm water. You can be able to drop through a series of rapids separated by even-flowing pools at the same time, enjoying the beautiful scenery which includes historic sites such as Black Bar Lodge and Marial Lodge to name a few. Likewise, the river boasts of exquisite underwater wildlife and mammals.

Enjoy your first challenge at the Rogue River as you pass by Graves Creek Rapids and Grave Creek Falls. Another destination for some whitewater action is the Deschutes River. This is a major tributary of the Columbia River. There are two main sections of the river that are popular for Whitewater Rafting. You can enjoy fun, moderate rapids and dependable water levels on Whitehorse rapids and the big waves at Buckskin Mary. This section is a designated wild and scenic river which offers exciting Class III and IV rapids including Oak Springs, Elevator, and Boxcar. You can also go Fly Fishing in this river.

The John Day River is very appealing to beginners. There are two rivers with this name in Oregon. One is located in eastern Oregon and the other one is in northwestern Oregon. It has basalt formations and impressive cliffs, palisades and so on in the background. The John Day River is navigable by Rafts and other small river crafts. Being a free-flowing river, it has very few rapids and is also a fun place to fish bass.

If you are looking for a more challenging whitewater adventure, head on to North Umpqua River, located approximately 161 km in southwestern Oregon. Aside from being famous for fly fishing anadromous fish, it is also renowned for its emerald green waters. Classic rapids such as Boulder Drop, Toilet Bowl, Cardiac Arrest, and the famous Pinball provide plenty of whitewater action.

Lower Owyhee River, on the other hand, contains Class I Rapids for six miles. Class II Rapids begin in the gorge. The areas offer great scrambling, but beware: the rocks are predominantly volcanic ash and are unsafe for climbing. Rapids continue and verge on Class III. After several miles, you can stop at Potter’s Cave on the right. It is a massively undercut cliff that is unsafe for camping under, but fun to check out. It is also a great place for Hiking, taking pictures, and soaking in natural hot springs.

These are only some of the famous Whitewater Rafting Destinations in Oregon. There is still much to discover and experience in the rivers, so if you are in the vicinity, treat yourself to a wet and wild whitewater adventure.
