River Courtesy & Manners
Rafting is meant to be enjoyed, no matter what exactly your reasons are for taking up the activity. To ensure that, you, your companions as well as rafters from other teams enjoy it to the fullest, there are several things expected of you to do and not to do.
On the River:
- Smaller crafts must give way to bigger ones because the latter is more difficult to maneuver than smaller ones.
- Always make sure that there is enough space between your boat and that which is ahead of you. This gives you enough room to move should the other one make a sudden turn or such.
- When passing through a rapid, always let the boat ahead you pass first.
- Watch out for rafters who may be in need of your help along the way. But before doing that, make sure that you and your team knows how to perform Rescue Techniques. Otherwise, you may do more harm than good.
- Be considerate of others like you who want to enjoy the water, like those who go fishing or kayaking.
While Camping:
Being considerate towards others shouldn't stop after you leave the river. Make it a point to also practice it when you're camping with your friends.
Some of the things you have to keep in mind are the location where you set up your camp, the cooking, washing, and toilet areas.
There are usually areas designated as camp sites so that the environment is protected. As for the things that you do in your camp like cooking and washing, take great care in making sure that you make the least impact on the environment during your stay there.
