Rafting Knots - Square Knot

Also called a Reef Knot, a Square Knot is usually used to tie two ropes or lines of the same diameter. It is very easy to tie and can be used to tie the two ends of a line or rope to bind an object that is not expected to move. This knot is not as secure as a bend. It jams and comes undone easily. In this section, learn how to tie a Square Knot. You will soon find uses for it.

Step 1:
Get the two ropes. Bring the first one over and under the second one.

Step 2:
Get the working part of the second rope.

Step 3:
Cross them over again to form a half hitch.

Step 4:
Pull both ends to tighten.
