Fayette County's 50 percent hotel-motel tax hike was unanimously approved by the county commissioners last Friday, July 27. The commissioners also added some caveats in order to make it more agreeable for the lodging and rafting industries.
The tax hike is set to take effect tomorrow August 1. However, those consumers who confirmed their reservations before July 20 for room occupancy that dates before November 1 will be exempted from the tax increase.
The tax hike will raise about $90,000 of additional returns. According to county commissioners all proceeds will be use either for tourism campaigns or to other tourism-related causes.
