WEDNESDAY, 25 JULY 2007
Maryland's Adventure Sports Center International, a $24 million whitewater rafting course finally opened last June. Nestled in the mountain at Wisp resort in McHenry, this extensive facility is purely man-made.
To ensure the consistent flow of rapids the facility includes four 535-horsepower pumps. This sends 250,000 gallons of water per minute. There are also six steel ramps installed at the bottom of the course. The ramps are either lowered or raised in order to change the shape of the waves.
The 2 hour session at the Adventure Sports Center International cost about $50 per person. The include safety orientation, a raft and a professional guide. Meanwhile those who have their own rafts can have a full day access to the facility for only $15.
