WEDNESDAY, 26 MARCH 2008
Youghiogheny River, a popular rafting destination, was recently named Pennsylvania’s River of the Year. The prestigious title was given by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR).
Youghiogheny River was chosen by the DCNR and other environmental and waterway groups over a dozen rivers found in the state of Pennsylvania.
According to officials, the river has successfully overcome adversity caused by the coal industry and had turned into one of the leading whitewater recreational destinations.
About 100,000 rafters come each year to the said river to enjoy thrilling rides. Aside from rafting, the river is also a popular spot for other water activities such as fishing, kayaking, and canoeing.
