Colorado Rafting Brings Families Together
WEDNESDAY, 28 MAY 2008
BUENA VISTA, Colo. - Get your children off the couch this summer and active in the outdoors through whitewater rafting. Colorado Kids view it as a fun roller coaster adventure through many face splashing rapids, but it really is a challenging, confidence-boosting adventure that will be sure to have your kids craving more outdoor voyages.
The most well-known Colorado whitewater river is the Arkansas River, home to beautiful mountain and canyon scenery with a variety of whitewater to suit all levels of ability. This river is centrally located in Colorado, making it an easy travel destination.
It’s not just for kids! The whole family can be brought closer with your whitewater experiences. Trips range in levels, so even Grandma can come whitewater rafting with her grandchildren. Rapids are categorized from one to six, one being the most calm and six being for experts only.
Children (4 years old and 35 pounds) are able to get their first taste of whitewater rafting on Class II rafting trips. The rapids trickle downstream, making the raft bumpy at times, but no big waves come over the raft. Rafters generally stay dry apart from their feet and enjoy watching the river wildlife and scenery.
Class III rafting adventures are suitable for children at least six years old and 50 pounds.
The rapids here are demanding but generally spread apart enough, allowing you to take a breather between rapids and enjoy your family’s laughs and smiles before heading into the next rapid. The rafting is challenging enough so even experienced rafters keep coming back year after year to get splashed by their favorite rapids.
The next levels of whitewater rafting, Class IV-VI, are suitable only for children 16 years old and above who have previous rafting experience and are physically fit.
You can choose between Paddling or Oar Rafts once you choose your whitewater adventure. Those with less experience, elderly or small children might prefer the Oar Raft, where your guide has control of the raft and you can simply hold on and enjoy! Those seeking a little more adventure and physical exertion might prefer to assist your guide in paddling through the rapids in a Paddle Raft.
All rafters are matched to their suitable trips by the Whitewater Professionals of River Runners. These reservation experts make sure that you are not getting in over your head before you even get on the water. Staff is encouraged to take time with you to match the type of whitewater experience you are wanting with the most suitable trip for the ages and levels of everyone in the family.
"We take great pride in that we are known throughout Colorado as The Whitewater Professionals," said Kevin Meadows, co-owner of River Runners, a Colorado Whitewater Outfitter since 1972. "We carry our professionalism throughout every aspect of our business to ensure a safe and suitable rafting experience for everyone."
If your children seek a little more adventure, why not try an overnight whitewater adventure? Convenient all-inclusive overnight whitewater packages through Class III Browns Canyon in Buena Vista are a great way to unite the family in a unique outdoor environment.
On your overnight adventure, everyone will enjoy challenging rapids, spectacular scenery and wildlife in the canyon while your whitewater guides prepare all your meals. Relax around a riverside campfire and enjoy sharing stories and laughs.
Whatever whitewater experience you and your family choose this summer, your kids will surly be boasting about their whitewater experiences for many years to come.
