Another rafting tragedy occurred in the notorious Rogue Rivers at the Pacific Northwest last June 1.
Lifelong friends Robert Blight and Dino Fry were enjoying a rafting trip when a powerful current hit their raft. The men immediately jumped to the waters and attempted to cross about 40 feet in order to reach the north end of the river. Forty-one-year old Fry survived. Unfortunately, Blight, who tried to swim even though he left his life jacket on the raft, was swept away.
Authorities claimed that the overflow of snow had caused the treacherous waters to be much colder and faster than usual. Blight’s body was recovered by Curry County Sheriff’s deputies last June 8, about five miles downstream from where the incident took place.
