Officials, business representatives, business and civic leaders from the local Coors and Pilgrim Pride plants, Rockingham County farmers, lawmakers, teachers, and students had a daylong rafting trip last Friday. The trip was held to visit the Shenandoah River of Virginia which had been suffering from fish kill for several years. The cause is still unknown.
The trip had increased awareness on the need to protect the river. Although rafting has been pointed out as a source of pollution in some areas, the people around Shenandoah River showed that rafting could also be an activity that can help find causes of pollution in rivers.
